Republican groups have already prepared dossiers and attack strategies on a host of possible Obama Supreme Court nominees, the New York Times reports. Ten memos obtained by the Times—all about female judges and scholars—focus on records of abortion rights, gay rights, and the citing of foreign laws. Weakened conservative groups don't expect to defeat Obama's nominee, but hope to galvanize the GOP.
“It’s a massive teaching moment for America,” one fundraiser said. For example, Judge Diane P. Wood supports abortion rights. Judge Sonia Sotomayor allowed a man to sue a corporation for violating his Constitutional rights. Judge Martha Vasquez... denied a death penalty appeal? Well, some hopefuls have conservative opinions too. But the GOP can't "be tempted to be more gentlemanly than Democrats are when a conservative is nominated," said one strategist.
