Indians Zing Zumaya & Tigers in the 10th

The Indians bested the Tigers 3-1 last night, clinching a 2-1 series win and climbing to 2½ games ahead of Detroit in the American League Central division. Though starters Jake Westbrook and Nate Robertson pitched shutouts through eight innings, Tigers closer Joel Zumaya surrendered three hits to Victor Martinez, Kenny Lofton and Chris Gomez to hand the tribe a 10th-inning win.

Zumaya's unreliability was not unexpected. The hard-throwing reliever has pitched twice in the three days since he was activated from the disabled list. "I'm not disappointed in him at all," said manager Jim Leyland. "He' can't strike out everyone every time." The Tigers kick off a four-game series against the Yankees today in Detroit.
