The extreme cold that has struck the Eastern US shows no sign of abating, as arctic winds carry snow and lower temperatures even to usually moderate parts of the country. Atlanta, for example, suffered a glazing of ice that contributed to a 30-car pileup near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. In Ohio, which has already seen significant snow, a tractor-trailer spun out on Interstate 70, hitting a bus carrying disabled adults and causing four deaths and six injuries.
Meteorologists warned that the snow and cold would continue through the weekend: "There is going to be a significant storm next week, no question about that; the uncertainty lies in tracking its movement," a Boston meteorologist told MSNBC.
