Obama Will Visit Mass., Stump for Coakley

President Obama will campaign for Martha Coakley Sunday in hopes of bolstering her bid for the late Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. The White House initially shied away from getting Obama involved in the Massachusetts special election, which is widely considered a referendum on his tenure. But the latest polls show Republican Scott Brown, who has vowed to scuttle health care reform, leading Coakley.

One Democratic official says many Massachusetts voters are not even aware of the election, so Obama's visit should go a long way toward increasing turnout. But if he fails to deliver for Coakley, especially in a race for a seat held by Democrats for decades, it will raise new doubts about the president's political fortunes, the New York Times reports.
