Extensive cell phone use can cause progressive hearing loss, according to a new study presented at a scientific conference in Washington. The study, conducted by researchers in India, found high frequency hearing loss among users who talked for more than an hour a day for four years on their cell phones, reports WebMD.
"Our intention is not to scare the public," said one researcher. "We need to study a larger number of patients." A spokesman for the cell phone industry dismissed the research. "There have been numerous studies that show no association between wireless usage and adverse health effects," he said.
