BBC Announcer: 'I Smothered Dying Lover'

British police plan to investigate a BBC presenter's confession that he smothered a lover who was dying of AIDS. "In a hospital one hot afternoon, the doctor said, ’There’s nothing we can do’. He was in terrible, terrible pain," Ray Gosling revealed in a program on mortality broadcast last night. When the doctor left "I picked up the pillow and smothered him till he was dead."

"The doctor came back and I said, 'he's gone,'" Gosling recounted, weeping. "Nothing more was ever said." The 70-year-old documentary maker and gay rights activist said he had made a pact with his lover that he would help him die if he was in intolerable pain, the Telegraph reports. Gosling was fully aware of the potential consequences of his confession and BBC executives will cooperate with an investigation if required, said a network spokeswoman.
