Dad May Get Jail for Taking Daughter to Church

A Chicago man in a child custody battle has been arraigned on criminal contempt charges for taking his toddler daughter to a Catholic Church service. Joseph Reyes, 35, was under a restraining order not to "expose his daughter to any other religion than the Jewish religion." His estranged wife, who is Jewish and has primary custody of the 3-year-old girl, has argued in court that it would cause their daughter "irreparable harm" to attend a Catholic church service.

The wife obtained the restraining order after Reyes baptized their daughter without her permission, reports ABC News. If found guilty, Reyes could get 6 months in jail. "My daughter should be exposed to the religions of both my wife and myself. Now there's a strong possibility I could end up in jail. It's really sad it's come to this,"
Reyes says. His next hearing is in March.
