A Florida hotel bent over backwards to make sure a bigoted British family's demands were met, according to a waiter suing the Naples Ritz-Carlton. The Haitian-born waiter says his bosses barred him from serving the family, who had specified that they didn't want to be waited on by any black people or anybody with a "foreign accent"—presumably not including British ones.
A note in the hotel's computer system read "this couple is very, very prejudiced." The waiter, who is seeking $75,000 in damages, was "humiliated and embarrassed" by the incident, the lawsuit states. "There’s just no room for it in America,” his lawyer told the News-Press. The director of the hospitality program at the nearby Florida Gulf Coast University said that while such requests are not uncommon, it's one situation where the customer is definitely not always right.
