Study: A daily dose reduces 'bad' cholesterol levels

Eating a small amount of peanuts every day can help keep cholesterol within healthy levels, a new study suggests. Regular consumers of nuts of all varieties had lower cholesterol, say researchers who reviewed 25 separate cholesterol studies. Specifically, subjects who ate at least 67 grams of nuts a day had 7% less "bad" cholesterol than people who never ate nuts, the Telegraph reports.

"Increasing the consumption of nuts as part of an otherwise prudent diet can be expected to favorably affect blood cholesterol, and have the potential to lower coronary heart disease risk," one researcher said. "Dietary interventions to lower blood cholesterol concentrations are the cornerstone of prevention and treatment plans for coronary heart disease."
