Dems Pick Blumenthal; GOP Gives McMahon Nod

Connecticut's truth-stretching attorney general will take on the former CEO of the WWE in the race for Chris Dodd's Senate seat, reports Politico. State Democrats last night nominated Richard Blumenthal, who ruefully took the stage to acknowledge having had a "little bit of a tough time" this week, while vowing to move on from his mistakes.

The New York Post isn't quite moving on, however, with this report of a 2007 speech in which Blumenthal again insinuated he served in Vietnam. State Republicans, meanwhile, tapped Linda McMahon as their nominee in the race; close rival Rob Simmons vowed to stay in the race, potentially setting up a fractious primary. But McMahon kept her sights on Blumenthal: “I’d venture to say we’re going to lay the smackdown on him in November,” she joked.
