Van der Sloot Demanded Extort 'Contract' From Nat's Mom

Joran Van der Sloot demanded a "contract" from Natalee Holloway's mom in which she was to agree to pay him thousands of dollars in exchange for information about her daughter's death in Aruba, according to officials. Van der Sloot, who remains the top suspect in the Alabama teen's disappearance, contacted a person who knows Beth Holloway Twitty to make the offer, reports ABC News. He initially demanded $250,000, but then agreed to dish out some details for $25,000 in cash

During the negotiations, "Van der Sloot insisted that a written contract between him and Twitty be prepared" by the go-between, according to the affidavit spelling out the extortion case against him. The contract was signed by Twitty, who faxed it back to the go-between. "Van der Sloot indicated that unless Twitty paid the money demanded he would not tell where the remains of her daughter were hidden, nor provide information regarding the circumstances of her death," the affidavit states. Before Van Der Sloot could be arrested for extortion, he apparently used the money he was paid to travel to Peru, where he's accused of killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores.
