A Texas doctor has been arrested for sending a fellow doctor to the emergency room for all the wrong reasons. According to a complaint filed May 29, breast cancer oncologist Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo gave head and neck cancer specialist George Blumenschein—with whom she also had a "casual sexual relationship"—a cup of coffee at her home in late January. When he complained it was sweet, she said she'd added some artificial sweetener and made him a second cup, the Houston Chronicle reports.

But that wasn't Splenda in his java. Instead, Gonzalez-Angulo allegedly added ethylene glycol—a toxic chemical used in antifreeze. Sixteen hours later, Blumenschein was in the ER suffering nervous system depression, cardiopulmonary complications, and renal failure. Gonzalez-Angulo's lawyers deny the aggravated assault charge. "She is a distinguished citizen and scientist, and these allegations are totally inconsistent with her personal and professional life," her legal team said in a statement. Gonzalez-Angulo has been released on $50,000 bail. (More poison stories.)
