Colorado Flash Floods Kill 2

Flash flooding in Colorado has left two people dead and the widespread high waters are keeping search and rescue teams from reaching stranded residents and motorists in Boulder and nearby mountain communities as heavy rains hammered northern Colorado today. A Boulder Office of Emergency Management spokeswoman said volunteers are trying to help stranded people until emergency crews can arrive because many roads are impassable. She said one person was killed when a structure collapsed in Jamestown. "We're trying to get to Jamestown. A lot of towns need assistance, and we cannot get through," she said.

A Colorado Springs spokeswoman said police found a body in the water on the west side of the city this morning after warnings were issued for flooding from a wildfire burn scar west of town. Hundreds of university students living near a creek in the city of Boulder have also been evacuated, and University of Colorado classes were canceled. The Weather Service said that county officials reported some homes had collapsed in Jamestown, where dozens of people live, according to a report by the Denver Post. (More Colorado stories.)
