House members may soon know a lot more about what happened during the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi. CIA security officers who were on the scene are set to testify in a closed hearing before a House Intelligence subcommittee, insiders tell CNN. The officers, whose job it was to protect CIA agents, include former Navy SEALS, ex-Marines, and former Army Special Forces. Until now, just one of some two dozen CIA operatives present during the attack has given testimony, the sources say.
CNN points to three key matters lawmakers want addressed. First, why was the CIA in Benghazi? A previous report said CIA operatives were facing polygraph tests to ensure they kept quiet; the CIA calls that claim "patently false." Second, members of Congress want unsuccessful rescue efforts explained. And finally, when did the administration know it was facing a terror plot? Answers could come soon: The operatives are due to testify the week of Nov. 11. (More CIA stories.)
