A pair of Army captains stationed in Hawaii had to rearrange their wedding at the last minute to make way for their golfing commander in chief. Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. had long planned to get married at the 16th hole of the military's Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, but they were informed during their rehearsal the day before Sunday's ceremony that they would have to change their plans because President Obama was golfing with friends that day, Bloomberg reports. They had invited Obama to the ceremony and received a letter saying he couldn't make it and wishing them well on the same day they were told they had to move, the groom's sister says.
But the couple's big day worked out fine and they have no hard feelings about the move, a friend of the bride tells CNN. The couple relocated to an "equally beautiful" part of the course, she says, and received a phone call from Obama apologizing for the mix-up. She says he told the groom, "If I had skipped the 16th hole, I would have had a better score." The call was put on speakerphone and Obama was "really funny and nice on the phone" as the rest of the wedding party listened in, the bride's sister says. Insiders tell the AP that the White House didn't know in advance that the couple had been told to move to make way for the president's round of golf. (More President Obama stories.)
