Carl Edwards rallied from a penalty to win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, his second win in three races after last week in Fontana. But Edwards' defeat of Dale Earnhardt Jr. may come with penalties: NASCAR inspectors are investigating a missing oil tank lid in Edwards' Ford, the Los Angeles Times reports. This is Edwards' ninth win, and first at Vegas.

Teammate Greg Biffle came in third, followed by Kevin Harvick. Jeff Gordon had a sudden meeting with the inside wall that he called his hardest hit ever, and reassured fans that "I'm OK, but I'm going to be really sore tomorrow." Tony Stewart also found himself in a serious smashup, but still plans to test today after being released by medical staff. (More NASCAR stories.)
