Cruz Scores Sole Delegate in Guam

In what Ted Cruz will doubtless be happy to consider a win, he was the only candidate to score a pledged delegate at Guam's Republican State Convention on Saturday. The party meeting in the Pacific territory elected a total of six delegates to the Republican National Convention, but only one of them, Cruz-supporting Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo, had already made their preference known, CNN reports. The others, along with three delegates chosen earlier, are expected to endorse candidates over the next couple of weeks.

Before the GOP members voted, the meeting was addressed over the phone by Donald Trump, John Kasich, and Heidi Cruz, the Pacific Daily News reports. Marco Rubio sent a video in. Kasich spoke of military spending and his work with the late Guam Delegate Ben Blaz on the House Armed Services Committee, while Trump talked about tourism. "I understand the tourism industry better than anyone else who's ever run for president," he said. "I thought it was very, very important to call in. I didn't want to give it to one of my assistants to do it." In other GOP contests Saturday, Wyoming Republicans will gather for the next step in their three-stage selection process, while Republicans in Washington, DC hold a primary that will select 19 delegates.
