It began as a minor sideswipe in Massachusetts and ended as something quite harrowing: Police say that an argument ensued after the Friday afternoon traffic incident on Interstate 90 some 20 miles west of Boston—and then Richard Kamrowski, 65, threw himself on the hood of a white Infiniti SUV as Mark Fitzgerald, 37, tried to drive off. And drive off he did, police say, traveling at speeds of up to 70mph as Kamrowski held on for what NBC News reports was roughly 3 miles; police described it as "a very significant distance."
NBC Boston reports that video footage of the incident shows Fitzgerald allegedly attempting to use the windshield wipers as Kamrowski hangs on. CBS Boston reports the SUV was stopped by other I-90 drivers who boxed in the car, with video showing a man pointing a gun at the vehicle. As for Fitzgerald and Kamrowski, they've both been arrested. NBC Boston reports Fitzgerald was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over age 60, negligent operation, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Kamrowski was charged with disorderly conduct and malicious damage to a motor vehicle; he allegedly cracked the windshield using a water bottle as Fitzgerald drove. The men are set to be arraigned Monday. (This road rage incident left both drivers dead.)
