Prince Philip Apologizes to Woman in Accident

Prince Philip is trying again to win the heart and mind of a woman he was in a car accident with, after initially letting police pass along to Emma Fairweather that "the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh would like to be remembered to you." This time the 97-year-old got out pen and paper to address the "very distressing experience," reports the BBC, and to tell Fairweather "how very sorry I am for my part in the accident." The charm offensive appears to be belatedly working, as Fairweather calls the letter a "nice touch." Philip appears to have been blinded by the sun, saying that it "was shining low over the main road. ... I can only imagine that I failed to see the car coming, and I am very contrite about the consequences." Further, "I was somewhat shaken after the accident, but I was greatly relieved that none of you were seriously injured." (More Prince Philip stories.)
