Philadelphia sports fans are known to be pretty ruthless at times, and an angry Eagles fan shown on screen for a few seconds during Sunday's broadcast of the Birds' loss to the Detroit Lions was certainly no exception—and after the clip went viral, some were surprised to find out just who the guy was. His identity, per the Philadelphia Inquirer, which has the video: Eric J. Furda, dean of admissions for the University of Pennsylvania. Furda was caught by the Fox TV cameras screaming what appeared to be obscenities just before the broadcast cut to commercial, Heavy.com reports, and the clip became pretty popular on Twitter, with fellow fans using it to express their own disappointment with the game.
Furda copped to it quickly on Sunday, retweeting one commenter who pointed out that a child was standing right next to him during his rant and then adding: "Bottom line is that calls were missed that were basic and also in place for player safety! Not sure what the refs were looking at today!" On Monday, he added, "After further review of the play I will take the 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct But I will not lose my passion for Philadelphia and Penn sports! Thanks for all the interview requests but we have a game on Thursday to get ready for which I will watch at home!" Many of those replying to his tweets didn't seem to have any desire to give him a penalty, calling him "the hero we need" and "our king." (More Philadelphia Eagles stories.)
