The man accused of ramming an SUV into the gates at the FBI's Atlanta office Monday has been identified as Ervin Lee Bolling, a US Navy veteran from South Carolina. The AP reports that Bolling enlisted in 1998 and served as a submarine sonar technician before retiring from the Navy in 2017. He faces a federal charge of destroying government property and state charges are expected. The FBI hasn't commented on any suspected motive. Bolling, 48, is married with three daughters and works as an insurance broker, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The newspaper reports that Bolling has no criminal history, apart from a few speeding tickets. On his Facebook page, he has shared videos critical of President Biden.

A car rammed into the gates of the FBI's Atlanta field office Monday, but investigators aren't sure why the suspect was trying to get into the facility. Officials say the suspect was arrested after he got out of the vehicle. The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A law enforcement official tells CNN that the suspect did not make any threats or other statements. The suspect rammed the gate after a failed attempt to follow an authorized vehicle into the facility, Fox 5 reports. Nobody was injured.

The FBI says the suspect could face both state and federal charges. The man was driving an SUV with South Carolina plates, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Pete Ellis, assistant special agent in charge of the Atlanta office, says the suspect has no connection with the facility, the AP reports. Ellis says bomb technicians checked the vehicle as a precaution. (More FBI stories.)
