The Red Sox routed the White Sox 11-1 yesterday, with home runs from David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, and Bobby Kielty rounding out Boston's four-game sweep in Chicago. The Sox, climbing to 7½ games ahead of the Yanks in the American League East, hammered pitcher Javier Vazquez to end his three-game winning streak.

Boston's Julian Tavarez fanned seven and surrendered only two hits in six innings. It was decidedly unexpected dominance from the 7-9 Tavarez, who was 0-5 in his previous seven starts and winless since June 20. Meanwhile, left fielder Manny Ramirez was benched with a sore back, though the All-Star should be back in the lineup this week. (More Boston Red Sox stories.)
