Most of Tim Pawlenty’s speech to CPAC today was standard small government conservatism, but he decided to illustrate his point with a Tiger Woods joke of questionable taste: “We can learn a lot from that situation, not from Tiger, but from his wife,” the normally staid Minnesota governor said. “We should take a page out of her playbook and take a nine iron and smash the window out of big government. We've had enough.”
Pawlenty’s comparison of the situation of American conservatives and the rumored rage of the beleaguered wife of a serial philanderer was picked up quickly by Democrats. “Tim Pawlenty today said that the country should take a nine iron to the government,” a DNC official quips to Politics Daily, “but instead all he did today was take a nine iron to his own credibility.” Snap! For the record, Tiger Woods today maintained “there has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever.”
